Think As God Thinks, Not After the Pattern of This World
Do not be conform any longer to the pattern of this world, Roman 12:2a.
When we read this portion of scripture it seems as if God has asked us to do something that appears to be impossible for us to accomplish today. Because of the times that we are living in today, this scripture is even more important in our society. I do not have to describe the conditions of today’s society and the situations that has challenged our lives as Christians in a godless society. The senseless killing of Trayvon Martin in Florida, and many more of our young children. The mental and emotional problems that are upon us from self-medicating and streets drugs; the shameful and degrading acts of violence toward each other; gang activity among peers; and the financial dilemma that seems to constantly increase in today’s society. The above, are all situations that stem from us refusing to Think as God Thinks.
No, No, No, it is not hard, difficult, nor impossible to achieve; it simply is not perceived, conceived and received in our social system enough. Romans twelve and other verses of this chapter are no longer the norm and we are close to being as the heathen practices of biblical times: “Every man did what he thought was right in his own eyes“ (See Judges 21:25). A heart throbbing and frightening thought.
But be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Roman 12:2b.
Ah, you mean the responsibility of making me and mines better is my Christian obligation? God really intends for me to learn His Word, pattern my life after His Son Jesus and walk therein. He also expects me to receive the Holy Spirit that does the work and live a life that affords me the opportunity to be in the WILL of God. Reading the Word of God or the Bible, self-help spiritual books and obeying the message that a preacher prepares for me each week is major in renewing my mind so that I may have godly thoughts and make godly decisions. Then I am able to pass down the same to my children, family and friends that are in my sphere, which really helps to alleviate some of the destruction that is going on in our society today. Prayer should be the vehicle I use to keep myself in right standing with the Lord, that I might be strong and continue to renew my mind and not be conformed to the pattern of the world any longer. Wow! This seems as if it is an awesome task but I’m going to do it with the help of the Holy Spirit. In this way, I would be Thinking as God Thinks and receive all that He has prepared for me. I can do this!
The next portion of the scripture or “C” portion, has revelation that I didn’t embark upon for some time. Then, suddenly I saw greatness in progress.
Roman 12:2c; Then you will be able to test and prove what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Reading this portion of scripture in my past, I thought our decisions, actions and behavior were in three dimension; either good, pleasing, or perfect. But how can that be when we are serving a faultless God? My thinking was based on my human perception and not biblical attributes of God‘s Will. A perfect all knowing, and loving God desires us in His good, pleasing and perfect Will always. To test and prove HIS WILL, we may have to acquire more knowledge and understanding in order to achieve it. But His good, pleasing and perfect Will for our lives is always in His plans for us. We do not have to be partially in His Will, we must be totally in His good, pleasing and perfect Will. God will accept none-less and we should not offer or be pleased with less. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come”, (see 1st Corinthians 5:17). If we have staked our future on Jesus, we have adopted a new way of thinking and living,
Philippians 2:5 &6, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.”
Today and for eternity THINK AS GOD THINKS.
